How Will Your Site Be Structured? 

To determine the proper structure for your website, start by performing an audit of your existing content and organizing it using the Content Inventory Spreadsheet. This will help you to identify any additional content needs.

 Having a view of all of your existing content, the next step is to group the content topics into pages and map them together. This will form the Site Map. Use the Site Map Template to begin organizing content into strategically based sections. 

 Completing these steps will guide you toward selecting page templates that best fit your site’s needs.

Template Selection

CANVAS has been built with a pre-defined Information Architecture already in place so that all you need to do is select the right page templates and features to match your content needs.  Remember, a CANVAS website is created from a set of templates, or predetermined page layouts, that are built with a set of features and functionality that will cover the needs of most brands. Features like ratings & reviews, support for mobile devices via responsive design, and the ability to play video are standard CANVAS capabilities for you to take advantage of.

Content Formation

The first step to creating your site copy is to form a content outline. Using your Content Inventory Spreadsheet, Sitemap, and Templates can help you to organize the content each page. Then, according to your content outline, edit and drop your page content into a Copy Deck Manual. This document will contain all of your page headlines, body copy, SEO meta data and references to images, links, video, and other media.  While creating and editing copy, remember to be mindful of your audience, don’t overwrite and follow your brief!

Once your Copy Deck is complete, your Site Builder will enter its content into your CANVAS website.

Information Architecture & Best Practices

Here are a few things to consider when creating and organizing your content.  

Be Clear and Consistent  
Craft all content carefully. Be consistent with language, naming and titles.   

Don’t Overwrite
Less is sometimes more. Achieve your goals as succinctly as possible.  

Stay Organized

Be clear, concise and strategic with powerful headers, subheads and lists.

Make it SEO Compatible

Make your site easily discoverable by creating a clean and clear site structure and embedding relevant keywords.
